This includes the user’s Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and language settings, operating system, Internet service provider (ISP), and the date/time of the visit.

The provider uses this data to efficiently manage the websites, to better understand user behavior across the entire website, to analyze trends, and to collect demographic data about users on an aggregate basis. What is a “cookie”?

A cookie is a small file, typically consisting of a string of letters and numbers, that is placed on the user’s computer when they visit the provider’s website (from its web server, the provider sends it to the browser’s cookie file on the user’s computer hard drive). For example, this enables the provider’s website to recognize the user’s device when a connection is established between the web server and the web browser. The main purpose of a cookie is to allow the web server to present the user with customized web pages, making the experience of visiting the website more personal and responsive to individual user needs. Cookies are also used by the provider to gain insight into how users interact with the website and to help improve the user experience.

What types of cookies are used on the provider’s websites?

The provider may use the following types of cookies on its websites:

  • Session cookies: These are temporary cookies stored in the user’s browser cookie file for the duration of the browsing session. They are deleted when the session ends. These cookies are essential for the proper functioning of certain applications or features on the website.
  • Persistent cookies: The provider may use these cookies to enhance the user experience (e.g., storing login information, language settings, etc.). These cookies remain in the user’s browser cookie file for a longer period or until deleted by the user. The duration depends on the user’s browser settings. Persistent cookies allow information to be transferred to the web server each time the user visits the website. They are also known as stored cookies.
  • First-party cookies: These cookies originate from the provider’s website that the user is visiting and can be either persistent or session-based. The website uses these cookies to store information for future visits.
  • Third-party cookies: These originate from other partner websites (e.g., for traffic analysis). These third parties may collect data across various websites and use it for purposes such as advertising, analytics, or improving their own services.

More information about cookies can be found online, for example: http://www.allaboutcookies.org.

When the use or storage of cookies requires user consent, the provider obtains the user’s consent before any cookies are used or stored on the user’s device. If the website has a more defined relationship with the user (such as an account, registration, or profile), consent is obtained as part of the registration process.

Third-party cookies

For advertising purposes and to optimize marketing communication, the provider may engage third-party advertisers. These advertisers use cookies to measure the effectiveness of advertisements and to tailor advertising content. Information collected by third-party advertisers may include data such as geographic location (derived from the IP address) or contact details such as email addresses if collected through the website.

Tracking and Analytics

To continuously optimize its marketing communications, the provider uses analytical software [Google Analytics by Google Inc.] on its websites. This software uses cookies to analyze website traffic (e.g., counting visitors, identifying browsers and keywords that lead to the site, navigation issues).

The analytical software tracks online behavior; at the data collection level, cookies store information on how users interact with the website, including the number of page views, the origin of the visit (geographical location), visit duration, and the number of visits. This helps improve the website and provide a better user experience. These data are collected via tracking cookies. The data collected through cookies are anonymous and are not linked to personal data. The provider does not share this information with third parties for their independent use. If the user does not accept cookies, no information is stored.

The website and the provider inform users about the use of cookies and obtain their consent before the cookies are used or stored on the user’s device.
